The tree landed on the Toyota Highlander along Kirkwood Pike/PA Route 472 in Quarryville, Colerain Township at 12:15 p.m. on April 3, PSP Trooper James Grothey detailed in the release.

Heavy rain and winds uprooted the tree sending it down on the SUV's windshield — trapping the pair inside the vehicle, Grothey explained.

They were freed with the assistance of local EMS and fire crews.

Both people in the SUV were taken to Lancaster General Hospital, where they remain with "serious injuries," Grothey said.

The road was closed for several hours.
